On the Harbor
This cottage on Wickford Harbor was long maintained as part of a family summer compound before being thoughtfully renovated for year-round living. The former full tennis court was reduced by half, preserving existing paving and fencing to create a safe, enclosed area for children’s play while allowing space for the construction of a new boathouse along the streetside edge of the property.
On the harborside, improvements included reconstruction of the seawall and installation of a new dock. Rather than extending conventional turf grass to the seawall, the landscape design introduced coastal-adapted plantings that now provide seasonal interest and valuable habitat for songbirds. Shrub roses, sea pinks, guara, sedums, and sea lavender deliver nonstop blooms from spring through fall, while varieties of juniper, heath, and ornamental grasses provide texture and color through the winter months.
